The official shortlist for the European Healthcare Design Awards 2018 has been announced, following a hard-fought competition and intensive judging process.

The 100,000 Genomes Project is a landmark programme bringing personalised medicine to the NHS and the world.

Cancer care

Maggie Keswick Jencks lived with advanced cancer for two years. During that time, she and her husband Charles Jencks worked closely with her medical team, which included oncology nurse Laura Lee, now Maggie’s chief executive, to develop a new approach to cancer care.

Views and perspectives

Bobby discusses the variation between how people in different countries rate their current healthcare services, and how this relates to their concern about the future of the services.


Up to a fifth of health expenditure makes little or no contribution to improving people’s health. In some cases, it even results in worse health outcomes.

The hospital in the city

A reorganisation of healthcare systems is needed to increase the provision of care at a local level, supporting the management of chronic disease and mental illness within primary care settings, and thus reducing the need for disruptive hospital interventions.

An online survey has found that nearly 98 per cent of delegates who attended this year’s European Healthcare Design (EHD) 2017 Congress & Exhibition rated it as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’.

The European Healthcare Design Congress 2017 was brought to a triumphant, yet poignant, conclusion yesterday (13 June) as the winners of the European Healthcare Design Awards were announced.
