EHD2018 Awards

The curtain came down on the European Healthcare Design Congress 2018 yesterday (12 June) in traditional style, with a ceremony to celebrate the winners of the European Healthcare Design Awards.

Population ageing

How will changes in population transform the world’s ability to meet the challenges that lie ahead for society and our healthcare services?

Digital health

A serial healthcare entrepreneur with a PhD in Engineering Physics, Dr Ali Parsa believes his tech start-up, Babylon, can do for healthcare what Google did for information.

Empowering patients

Solutions to the healthcare challenges of the future cannot be developed by experts alone.

Personalised medicine

The 100,000 Genomes Project is a landmark programme bringing personalised medicine to the NHS and the world.

Cancer care

Maggie Keswick Jencks lived with advanced cancer for two years. During that time, she and her husband Charles Jencks worked closely with her medical team, which included oncology nurse Laura Lee, now Maggie’s chief executive, to develop a new approach to cancer care.

Views and perspectives

Bobby discusses the variation between how people in different countries rate their current healthcare services, and how this relates to their concern about the future of the services.

Up to a fifth of health expenditure makes little or no contribution to improving people’s health. In some cases, it even results in worse health outcomes.

The hospital in the city

A reorganisation of healthcare systems is needed to increase the provision of care at a local level, supporting the management of chronic disease and mental illness within primary care settings, and thus reducing the need for disruptive hospital interventions.

Arts and health

Highlighting the growing research demonstrating the effects of arts and cultural engagement on health across the lifespan, Dr Daisy Fancourt, a Wellcome research fellow at University College London, gave a stirring keynote address to open the second day’s proceedings of the 4th European Healthcare Design Congress earlier this week.

EHD2018 Awards

Bas Molenaar, a former partner of Dutch firm EGM architects, received the acclaim of the European healthcare design community last week when he was honoured with the Susan Francis Design Champion Award 2018 at the European Healthcare Design Congress in London.

Interior design

A competition to win £10,000 worth of clinical lighting solutions has been launched by innovative lighting technology company Visualite in partnership with SALUS Global Knowledge Exchange.
